Toxic
Toxic is a recurring villain in Dispatch. He is a villain working for the Red Ring.
Biography
Shortly before the start of Dispatch, Toxic allowed himself to be captured by Robert Robertson as part of Shroud's plan to capture the Astral Pulse.
Pivot
Toxic is tied up in the apartment of Robert as they talk about Robert's deceased father before the latter shifts the conversation back to the location of Shroud. Initially refusing to tell Robert where his boss is, Toxic is intimidated into giving his location as Robert hangs him over his apartment’s balcony, revealing he is hiding at Llewelyn Steel Works, but keeps screaming for help. Robert tells Toxic to keep quiet and that he will drop him if he doesn’t, but the goon refuses to cooperate, at which point Robert can either drag him back into the apartment or allow him to fall safely into a dumpster below.
Toxic reunited with Mecha Man in the control room of the steel mill shortly after, having set a trap with the other members of the Red Ring. Toxic fights Mecha Man in his suit and is overpowered, but his fellow Red Ring goons come to his aid. Shroud eventually arrives, and Toxic speaks out loud for him, demanding the Astral Pulse in exchange for the pilot's life. Robert soon escapes, though his suit is blown up soon after.
Retrospective
Toxic is seen flying up to a news helicopter and kicking its cameraman back during the Red Ring's assault against Torrance before capturing the aircraft.
Personality
During Robert's interrogation, Toxic appears emotionally mature, recognising that Robert's relationship with his late father is not as simple as he makes it out to be. This maturity is lacking in Robert and Toxic's following encounters, as the goon mocks his father's death relentlessly.
Toxic also appears confident in the face of conflict, likely due to Shroud's enhancements, which seem to be the main reason why he is loyal to him.
Appearance
In his normal state, Toxic appears as a caucasian male wearing a yellow jacket and a white undershirt. He is covered in tattoos and has a buzzcut.
When his powers are active, Toxic's body is covered in green corrosive sludge that burns his clothes away, leaving him entirely naked. His face also appears featureless, and his eyes glow green.
Abilities
Note: despite his chosen name, Toxic has no apparent powers related to toxicity.
- Caustic form: By activating his powers, Toxic covers himself in corrosive goo, giving him access to the following abilities. It is not clear if he uses an acid or a base, per se.
- Caustic expulsion: Toxic can shoot highly corrosive globs from his hands. This agent is corrosive enough that it can burn through thick metal within seconds.
- Flight: Toxic is able to fly.
- Regeneration: Upon assuming his caustic form, Toxic heals all the wounds he sustained beforehand, allowing him to fight Robert despite having had his bones broken by the Mecha Man suit.
- Superhuman durability: Toxic is durable enough to take multiple direct hits from the Mecha Man suit and multiple hits to the genitals from Punch Up, though the latter notably crippled him for a while.
- Superhuman strength: Toxic is strong enough to punch the Mecha Man suit and send it flying, and lift a pillar made out of steel bars.
Equipment
As a superpowered member of the Red Ring, Toxic received cybernetic implants to enhance his superpower. What about his powers got improved upon is unknown.
Notes
- Before his name is revealed, the subtitles refer to Toxic as 'Soothing Goon'.
