Fuck you mean temporarily? Bitch, you blind foreva!
― Prism after a goon cried she temporarily blinded him

Prism, real name Alice, is a supporting character in Dispatch. She is a reformed villain employed as a superhero by the Superhero Dispatch Network (SDN) under the Phoenix Program.

Biography

Background

Prism never knew her father. She attended her first talent show as a child, ending up in second place, losing to a girl called Lizzie Gallupo. In revenge, Prism burned her hair off with a laser beam, an event that would later inspire her first single, "Girl, your hair's on fire."

Prism would eventually go on to become a pop star with 1.3 million followers on social media and sign up for the Phoenix Program.

Onboard

Prism is first seen in a file shown to Robert Robertson by Blonde Blazer and Chase to familiarize him with the Z-Team.

As Robert introduces himself to the Z-Team at the start of his first dispatching shift, Prism laughs and mocks his name. When Invisigal stated he saw him in his underwear, Prism bursts out laughing again and asks if Robert "was packing much."

Turnover

Prism and the rest of the Z-Team were informed by Blonde Blazer that the lowest-ranked member of the team would have to be cut by the end of the day. She objects to this to Robert at the start of their shift, stating that "only God can judge [her]," to which he retorts that he can and is judging her. During the shift, Prism gets sabotaged by a fellow Z-Teamer who doxxes her and leads her to be swarmed by a group of rabid fans. Fed up with the team sabotaging each other, Robert recalls them back to base for an emergency meeting in the conference room.

During the meeting, Prism objects that they are not at fault to Blazer and insinuates that their dispatchers are to blame for their poor performance. Robert scolds her for interrupting him and reasserts his authority over the group, at which point Punch Up chimes in to tell Prism to tell to let their dispatcher speak his piece and calling her 'Lady HaHa.' Prism takes issue with this and grabs one of Coupé's knives, which he presses against Punch Up's neck and threatens him not to insult her again, which he laughs off. As Prism returns the knife to Coupé, the assassin threatens her to ask to use one of her knives, though Robert interrupts before the conflict can escalate further and gives a speech to inspire the team to cooperate. The rest of the shift runs smoothly as the team works together to complete their missions.

Prism and the rest of the Z-Team overhear Invisigal, and Robert catch Lightningstruck and celebrate her success as she returns to the office, with Prism posing for a picture with her, Malevola, and Flambae.

Restructure

With either Sonar or Coupé being cut, however, Prism and the rest of the Z-Team struggle to complete their duties, even more so when Malevola or Punch Up (depending on who was cut) left mid shift. At the end of her shift, Prism decides to drink to unwind.

The day after, the cut hero is replaced with either Phenomaman or Waterboy, who, respectively, prove difficult to work with due to their depression and hazardous power.

Team Building

During their break, Malevola and Prism are debating what Robert's potential superpower in the break room as he is heating his lunch. Questioning what they are talking about, the Prism explains that there is a betting pool going around the group on which hero he used to be before becoming a dispatcher. Malevola then asks for a hint. No matter what Robert replies with, neither hero is satisfied, and he jokingly suggests they should do their job if they want to earn the money instead. Testing his reflexes, Malevola throws her cup of coffee at Robert's head, who tells them to clean it up before leaving.

At the end of the workday, the Z-Team decides to go to The Sardine for drinks and invites Robert to come with. At the counter, Malevola, Punch Up, and Prism have Robert pay for their drinks before Malevola repeatedly beats a poor goon in arm wrestling. Eventually, a bar fight breaks out between the Z-Team and the other patrons, who reveal themselves to be part of the Red Ring. During the fight, instead of aiding her allies, Prism live-streams the brawl, dances, and sings "HOES DEPRESSED" by THOR SQUAD, though she is forced to blind a pair of goons as they attempt to attack her.

The battle won, the team goes to FuGo for Mexican food, where the team questions how it comes that he has a history with the Red Ring. Regardless of whether Robert reveals he is Mecha Man or not, the rest of the team exchanges their real names, with Prism revealing hers is Alice, before they talk the rest of the night away.

Moving Parts

If Robert revealed his identity as Mecha Man to the Z-Team, Prism, and the rest of the team attend the latest Proto Pulse test to confirm his identity as part of the bet, with Prism winning the pool as she accurately guessed he is powerless. As the Proto Pulse starts to malfunction, Prism helplessly watches as the Mecha Man suit explodes with Robert inside. Though Robert thankfully survives and lands in the infirmary. If Robert kept his identity a secret, Punch Up and the team are ignorant of the incident.

Regardless, the team buys Robert an expensive bottle of vodka as a 'get-better' gift and is invited by Invisigal to have a housewarming party at the dispatcher's apartment to find a way to track the Astral Pulse down, as it has been recently discovered to be intact. With Robert indisposed, Blonde Blazer took over his post for the day and proves herself to be a rather rusty dispatcher. Fortunately, Robert recovers swiftly and reassumes his dispatching duties. At the end of the shift, the team makes plans to travel to Robert's apartment.

Prism and the rest of the team would bear witness to Invisigal and Chase's argument over whether to storm the warehouse where the Astral Pulse is being kept or not, which swiftly turns personal as Chase lets it slip that Robert used to be Mecha Man. Amused, Prism filmed the exchange. The argument ends with Invisigal punching Chase and storming off, after which the Z-Team is told by Blazer to leave and keep quiet over what happened.

Restrospective

Following the housewarming party, Invisigal disobeyed Blond Blazer's orders and assaulted the warehouse on her own. Although she was successful in retrieving the Astral Pulse with Robert’s reluctant aid, she was ambushed by Shroud soon after, who seemingly left with the pulse. This forced Chase to use his superhuman speed to rescue her, and he fell into a coma afterward because of his accelerated aging. As punishment, Invisigal was suspended from the Z-Team until further investigation.

This hit the Z-Team hard, who decide to hold a meeting regarding Invisigal’s membership. At the start of the shift, Prism takes a drag of her vape while scrolling through her phone, looking saddened. During the shift, Flambae expresses worry that Chase may die, though Malevola assures him that if he does, he will be well taken care of, which confuses Prism. Prism also notably acts spacy if dispatched, initially not realizing she has been dispatched until Robert reminds her.

As Robert leaves the office following the end of his shift, he sees Punch Up flying out of the glass door of the boardroom, having been kicked by Golem. Investigating as to why it happened, the Z-Team explains to him that they believe Invisigal's suspension is not enough and voted to cut her. If Robert defends Invisigal and refuses to cut her, Prism suffers a morale drop. Regardless, the heroes soon spot the door swinging open and shut, revealing that Invisigal was using her powers to spy on the group as they are holding their meeting. Worried, Robert follows her.

Synergy

As the Red Ring launches its assault on Los Angeles County, Prism, Golem, and Punch Up were the only members of the Z-Team who arrive on time and were not captured by the Red Ring. Fortunately, they manage to track down and free their captured allies, with Malevola arriving late. If Invisigal wasn't cut from the team, she joins the heroes in combating the Red Ring as well. With the amount of calls coming in, the Z-Team was eventually forced to cover all of Los Angeles County and came face to face with Coupé/Sonar (depending on who was cut), who joined forces with the Red Ring to take revenge on Blonde Blazer and Robert. Regardless of whether the heroes are successful in pushing the cut hero back or not, they are forced to return to the SDN Torrance office as the gang launches their assault on it.

Arriving to find Robert pinned by Shroud in his mech suit, Prism creates a holographic body double of Blonde Blazer, distracting him long enough for Flambae to fire a series of fireballs, which the real Blazer swiftly follows up with a punch, sending Shroud's mech flying. During the battle, Prism does her best to use her powers to assist her allies, only to fall as Shroud destroys one of her light-construct platforms. Fortunately, Malevola manages to catch her a portal allowing her to land safely and continue the fight against the Red Ring goons.

With the goons defeated, the Z-Team and Chase, now revived and empowered by Blazer’s amulet, regroup to finish off Shroud’s mech. Unfortunately, their victory is short-lived as Shroud takes Beef hostage and forces Robert to hand over the Astral Pulse. Sonar and the rest of the team are forced to watch as the recovered Red Ring goons hold them back while Robert deals with Shroud. Regardless of the outcome, Shroud is neutralized, and the Z-Team once again subdues the goons. Victorious, Prism helps rebuild the Torrance office and celebrates with her fellow Z-Teamers.

Personality

Described as highly dramatic, Prism is a proud, charismatic diva.

Prism shows talent in makeovers, able to bestow new hero identities to two men quarreling over the name ‘Fight Man.’ Blonde Blazer also describes her as talented when asked why Prism dresses as a pop star, evident in her number of followers.

She has a judgemental side, noted to be a ‘music snob’ and looking down on William Vanderstenk, calling him a ‘loser’ and doesn’t respect his certificate, saying he’s not a genius just for having one.

Prism shows some interest and enthusiasm as a Phoenix, occasionally commenting that a mission looks fun if dispatched. When succeeding, she proudly exclaims her success, telling others 'It's okay, don't be jealous' while asserting she knows they've witnessed it. Upon failing, she becomes aloof and hostile, telling others not 'to fucking try her today.'

Appearance

Prism's most striking feature is her blue and pink hair split perfectly down the middle. She wears shoulder-length gloves corresponding to her hair color as well as a visor over her eyes and teal thigh-length boots. She wears a Legged bodysuit with a gold line down the center and around her neck accompanied by gold ring at the center of the line meeting her neck.

Relationships

Robert Robertson (Mecha Man)

Dispatcher and hero. Prism is disrespectful towards Robert, laughing at his name, mocking him as ‘Roberto Robertoson’ and asking if he’s ’packing much’ when Invisigal mentions she saw him in his underwear.

Robert notes her talent in makeovers, saying that the Fight Men's' new names are better than they deserve.

Flambae

Friends and co-heroes. Prism respects and often compliments Flambae, calling him ‘hottie’ and verbally validating him. She refers to the both of them as ‘bad bitches’ and says it’s over for whoever's receiving them and their ire. She is also one of the few Phoenixes who refuse to visit the topic of his loss against Mecha Man.

In return, Flambae values her opinion, asking how his hair looks, and warns others not to mess with ‘perfection.’

Youtopia

Prism dislikes Youtopia and judged Sonar's taste in her music, criticizing that Youtopia knows four chords and cannot write a song to save her life . If Prism was dispatched to escort Youtopia to her private jet, Escape Artist, she complains to Robert that there are bigger problems than escorting Youtopia to her jet. If the mission is successful, Prism says "goodbye" and tells her to not return.

Trivia
