That was one guy.
― Galen, responding to a Bath Salts comment

Galen is a supporting character in Dispatch. He is a dispatcher working for the Superhero Dispatch Network (SDN).

Biography

As Blonde Blazer is showing Robert around the SDN office, she cites Galen as an example of their diversity and reveals he has super hearing, though she blanks on his place of origin. Overhearing the conversation, Galen reminds her that he comes from Florida. Now whispering, Blazer jokingly tells Robert to be careful with bath salts around him, a reference to 'Florida Man' jokes, and Galen reminds her that it was just one guy and thus not emblematic of all Floridians, again picking it up with his superhearing. As Robert gets started on his first shift, Galen helps him get settled on Blazer's request by instructing him on how to use the dispatcher features on his computer.

Personality

Galen has a dry, deadpan, and weary personality. He prefers his privacy and dislikes assumptions: when being gossiped about by Blonde Blazer, he dryly cuts in on the conversations, disapproving of the act.

As a dispatcher, he takes his job seriously and expects others to do the same, commenting that the SDN has encountered some apprehended thieves before on Robert’s shift, if they’ve been caught during a museum robbery.

Beyond his dispatcher role, he works on his own standup comedy routine, calling in a request to Robert to assist with a potential data leak in the SDN system, and that his notes might also be compromised, too.

Appearance

Galen wears a deep blue turban with a golden Khanda fixed on top of turban symbolizing Sikhism, a gold chain necklace, and rectangular glasses.

His eyes are a deep black, with thick eyebrows. He has a long and similarly thick beard, with his moustache curled at the ends, framing his face.

Abilities

  • Super hearing: Galen was born with super-hearing, able to clearly hear a conversation about him occurring from across the room, including comments at a quieter volume.

Relationships

Blonde Blazer

Boss and employee. Blonde Blazer isn’t well-acquainted with him, trying to guess his birthplace when she conveys how important diversity is to Robert. Galen is unamused by this, and states he’s from Florida, across the room from their conversation.

He also disapproves of her trying to quietly remark to Robert that he should stay off the bath salts and responds that the incident only involved just one person suffering for it.

Phenomaman

Acquainted. If Phenomaman is recruited in Episode 8: Synergy, Galen helps input him into the SDN database for active dispatching. Phenomaman explains that he saves on his monthly melon subscription by delivering it himself, which Galen says it doesn't sound worth it.

Robert Robertson

Co-workers. As a fellow dispatcher, Galen trusts Robert to provide solutions to various problems, calling in occasionally about some calls regarding a potentially compromised SDN system and previously encountered criminals. Galen is occasionally bemused by Robert, reminding him of unspent skill points that a Phoenix has earned when he neglects to use them.

Episode 8: Synergy, Galen follows Robert's request to input either Waterboy or Phenomaman into the SDN system with the Z-Team, and is silently disappointed when he's not included in the fistbump that Royd and Robert share during the Red Ring crisis.

Waterboy

Acquainted. If recruited into the Z-Team in Episode 8: Synergy, Galen gently directs him into getting ready for heading out, asking him how he's feeling, and supportively affirming '[Waterboy] sounds okay as fuck' when Herman repeatedly exclaims 'okay' to himself, shaking off his nerves.
